When it comes to money lessons from the Holy Bible most people are familiar with the instructions found in 1 Timothy.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:10 KJV

The O’Jays discuss the many ways in which individuals have “erred from the faith” in the classic song For the Love of Money.

What Would you do for Money?

For the Love of Money is a timeless anthem that sheds light on the dangerous temptations people place themselves in just to get (what they refer to as) that “almighty dollar”. Check out some of the examples illustrated in their lyrics below:

For the love of money
People will steal from their mother
For the love of money
People will rob their own brother
For the love of money
People can’t even walk the street
Because they never know who in the world they’re gonna beat
For that lean, mean, mean green
Almighty dollar, money
For the love of money
People will lie, Lord, they will cheat
For the love of money
People don’t care who they hurt or beat
For the love of money
A woman will sell her precious body

Earlier we used the phrase timeless to describe this song because the descriptions from the lyrics above can still be seen today. Everyday it seems like there are more reports addressing the scams people commit in hopes of being rich. So, here’s the million dollar question: what are you willing to do for money?

Has your desire for money ever caused you to lie, cheat, steal, etc? If so, don’t worry (we’re not passing judgement) but it is something you should definitely be aware of because you never know when that day of judgement does come.

No matter how we try to justify it it seems that money has an effect on people. Those who don’t have it want it. And those who do have it want more of it. So, we will end with another lyric from the O’Jays

Don’t let, don’t let, don’t let money rule you
For the love of money
can change people sometimes
