By now you may have received your important tax documents and are eagerly looking forward to filing your taxes-BUT WAIT!! Our friends at United Way of Washtenaw County (UWWC) want to save you some money by helping you file your taxes for FREE! Hold up, we know what you’re thinking:
Yeah, yeah, every tax service says you can file for free and then they hit you with upsells after you input your information.
We truly understand your hesitation and frustration; but UWWC guarantees completely free tax returns as long as you meet the income requirements of their VITA program.
What is VITA?
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program helps those with low to moderate income, less than $54,000, file their taxes at no cost. VITA volunteers are required to undergo rigorous IRS training so you can feel confident knowing that you’re working with a qualified tax preparer.
Where can I find VITA Services?
The program is constantly growing and this year is no different. UWWC is expanding its VITA services even more by hosting tax preparation events at:
- EMU College of Business
- Manchester Community Center
- MichiganWorks!
- and more

But what happens if you can’t (or don’t want to) visit a physical location. Well you may have the option to upload your documents virtually to a secure site to have a volunteer complete your taxes on your behalf as well.
Save Money this Year
This tax season remember you have two options: you can pay to file your taxes or you can get it done for free. You can learn more about United Way of Washtenaw County’s VITA program by calling (734) 677-7235 or visiting uwwashtenaw.org/freetaxhelp.
