According to a 2019 Gallup news poll 55% of Americans reported that they own shares of stocks. Although that’s still a majority of citizens we should note that that’s still a significant decline in participation from the reported 62% of Americans that owned stock during 2001-2008 (before the recession hit). However, despite historic highs it seems interesting that participation in the stock market has yet to bounce back.
